ALL THE HASH MARKS YOU ARE LIKELY TO ENCOUNTER AT AN MGH4 HASH

(And the percentage you will see that mark on any given trail)

Trail marks: These are what we follow.

100% chance of seeing

Check: Trail can go anywhere in 360 degrees, and will usually pick up within 100 yards (or less) of the check mark. Usually 3 trail marks after a check means you are on true trail. If you only find one or two marks you probably should look elsewhere. Once true trail is found the Check should be "kicked" in the proper direction - thus the second picture. Occasionally you will find a Check that has two or three lines in the circle instead of a dot of flour; This indicates that the true trail is in one of the indicated directions.

       100% chance of seeing

Tit Check: This is just like a normal check, except that no male hashers can look for trail until a female hasher reaches the check to help out. DON'T CHEAT YOU STINKING FRB's. If you are not certain of your gender please do NOT ask the GM to help determine this!!! Just assume you are not the proper sex and wait for someone else to come along. Once true trail has been found the Check can be kicked and the rest of the pack can go through as normal.

10% chance of seeing

Count Back (x): This means you have followed a false trail. Count back the indicated # of marks (x), and the xth mark is considered to be a check.

60% chance of seeing

Check Back, or YBF: False trail, go back to the last check and look for true trail from there.

      60% chance of seeing

True Trail Arrow: This indicates that you are on definitely on true trail. Go the way the arrow points.

90% chance of seeing

Hare Arrow: Same as a True Trail arrow, except you will have to go a long way in the direction indicated before you will see more trail marks.

60% chance of seeing

On-Over Arrow: Again, the same as a True Trail Arrow, but it normally indicates to cross over some obstruction such as a road, a creek/river, a gully, or a fence...

40% chance of seeing

Turkey/Eagle Split: This will be where trail divides into two trails. The arrow pointing to the "E" will be the harder trail, typically longer, and through nastier shiggy. The "T" is for slower hashers with better sense than to take an eagle trail!

10% chance of seeing

Danger Sign: Stop & proceed carefully when you see this mark! It  means barbed wire, or a steep cliff, or some other nasty hazard is right in front of you. Look cautiously before proceeding!!!

30% chance of seeing

Quiet Zone: Duh. No noise, no whistles, no yelling "On-On" etc etc...

1% chance of seeing

Scenic View: Slow down & take a look around. The hare thinks he/she is taking you through an area that deserves your attention for something other than to sniff out trail. Slow down, smell the roses enjoy life etc etc...

1% chance of seeing

Beer Stop: Your hare has seen fit to leave you a treat on trail. A nice place to take a break and have a drink, and get your breath back before setting out in pursuit of the hare again. Occasionally there will be other special treats besides beer & water, so be sure to stop & check out the area when you see one of these signs (Particularly on Tinkerbell's trails)

10% chance of seeing

Beer Near: The mark you WANT to see! It means you should be very close to the end of trail. (Unless Tinkerbell is setting trail, then you might have another 1/2 mile to go - "That one is just for you Harelips")

99.999% chance of seeing (we better see one damn it!)

Other Marks: If the hare determines that some other special mark is needed for the day's trail, then the hare may announce special instructions at the start.

And be sure to check out the suggested MGH4 Hare Guidelines
